After a beautiful, long, hot and dry summer, with great fishing, the autumn kicked in. Normally the temperatures drop down quickly then, and mostly autumn spinfishing is fantastic, there's real good chances to catch fat ones on the shallow parts.
But the past weeks, it was very different....and sometimes very difficult.
In September I started autumn-fishing with a nice guest, travelling alone from Ireland here. His first time in Sweden and so I took him fishing in my boat for 4 days in row.
The conditions were perfect in that week, temperatures dropping and low s/w winds, so we could fish on many different lakes, and we really had great fishing with an average of 10 pretty big pikes each day.
The fish were many, agressive, strong and gave good sports and big fun ! I hope you enjoyed Dalsland, Patrick !
In the same week James and David from Scotland were here. For the second time, first they visited us in May and now they were here again for some autumn fishing.
One day we met them on the same lake, and from a distance we saw they did good business as well while bringin' in a fat lady -:)
I hope you had a good time here again with the pikes, the trouts and the nice weather, and happy to see you back next year !
After this great start of the autumn fishing, Robert, an old business-relation and good friend, arrived here with 5 of his friends. For a 3-day short trip, just to have fun, relax, and do some fishing. For most of their group it was their first time fishing ever. But it also seemed like summer had returned, with 20 degrees +, no winds. Not bad at all for us, but the fishing slowed down immediately. But, we found the trick and so they all managed to catch some pikes. Not big, but that's not always important to enjoy fishing. So I think it's not bad for a first time, in a short period and under such circumstances !
And the fun we had every day and night is something to remember for sure. Welcome back anytime guys, after a little taste it's maybe time to go after a big one now !!
Then Peter and Rene arrived, and after 2 more days of nice weather came a long rainy period with most north winds. But real anglers just go out , no matter what conditions. And with their lean- and mean boat they could go to places were big boats can't go, and every day they managed to catch good numbers and nice pikes !
Thanks, and i'm already looking forward to see you back next season for new chances and adventures !
And there was also Kai and friends. After having great spring-fishing here, they decided to return and try again in autumn. This time, they were not so lucky..... in the beginning of the week they had nice fishing, and nice weather. But after a few days it turned, they had nothing but bad weather and slow fishing. They are skilled anglers, but sometimes nature decides the game ....thanks anyway for sending in some nice pics, and next time you get what you deserve Kai !
In-between we finished the map of Laxsjön, wich was made by Tommie and Gustav during their practice for Forshaga Sportfishing academy, and we also started mapping some new smaller lakes with a group of students from the dutch Wellant college. Beautiful work, the seamaps are printed in large format, and for sale now at Laxsjöns FVO !
Then it was finally time for our yearly week of fishing- and fun with Johan and Ed ! Last year around the same period we had ice on the boat every day, cold water around 8 degrees. But, stable weather and good fishing with big and fat pikes up to 124 cm and 16 KG + .
This year was the opposite.... and again we faced a change of weather, indian summer arrived. We had water temperatures still around 16 degrees, almost no wind and when there was wind, it was changing direction all day. Some days we could even fish in T-Shirts. Wich is not bad also :-)
So, a big difference with last year, and so was the fishing. We simply had a hard time. We found the fish, but some days they just seemed to ignore all baits and techniques, no matter what we tried.
But, take it as it is, enjoy, and just keep on trying. Bad days are always followed by good days, and we were finally rewarded.......Started catching them, and among a few nice big ones !
Overall, I think it was still a great week with BIG fun and great company, and next year we beat them again !
The week after, me and Tim took a fishing trip, the pike fishing was still hard so we tried some different things. The trout- and perch fishing however was the best !! We both took a PR on these beautiful species :-)
To wrap up :
The autumn fishing for pike started off great, but then it became really hard for a few weeks in row, on most lakes around our area. Still, all guests reported some nice fish, so that's great, but it was hard working for most of them.
It has a lot to do with the weather. Up to now it has been most unstable in our area, weather, winds and airpressure changing all days, and overall it was way to warm for this time of season. Pikes simply don't like that quick changes and have to adjust all the time. Big ones were caught now and then, but not so much as we want, it seems they are still not in their angry winter-feeding-mode.
Also remarkable on many lakes some days, are the HUGE amounts of baitfish, concentrated on small areas, and still on the deeper parts. Predators are just standing beneath them. That might look easy, but it is not. With so much easy food just in front of their mouth, it's hard to get them attracted to hunt your lures or baitfish.
Or maybe ... we are just a bit spoiled, always used to big fish, and now they take revenge by ignoring us :-) Anyway, every pike angler knows it can be hard sometimes, it's all part of the game.
Good news is that it finally seems to be colder and a bit more stable weather from next week. A few more guests are coming, so I hope the baitfish spread out and the big ones are hungry now !
Actually .... I think it's starting right now :-) Recently I received a bunch of new 2015 sample hard- and softbaits from Westin. So me and Tim went out last sunday for a short morning trip, for some spinfishing at the shallow parts and try the new lures. After the second cast we had a hard strike, big fish, but lost it right in front of the boat. The next one however did not escape ...... A big 121,5 cm , and followed by a few beautiful 90 + fish. We took many nice pikes in only a few hours, especially on the new Westin Shad Teez. Beautiful, natural softbaits, love them already...... So, feeding-mode was ON !
If we are lucky we have a few more weeks to go and enjoy fishing by boat, before the winter strikes. So maybe autumn part 2 follows. But then again, winter here is great fun also, i'm already looking forward to the ice-fishing period ! See also :
