No words needed...... :-)
Below a slideshow of the best fishes caught by our guests and guides during last season. If you like to see the best pics of 2017 -or earlier years- separated, you can find them here.
No further words needed i guess .... :-) Just enjoy!!
Thanks for joining us last year, and welcome back in 2018 at Sportfishing Dalsland!
Due to a very busy spring season, we just could not find the time for some website and blog updates, our apologies ......so instead, we connected some feeds to our facebook and youtube channels now, to keep you updated (Just give it a few seconds to load)
As you can see it has been an amazing season so far, with happy guests and MANY MANY big fish!! We lost the numbers of 100 cm+ / 10 kg + pikes. But it was hundreds.....a totally crazy spring.... :-)
Enjoy, and many thanks for visiting Sportfishing Dalsland!
Our first autum guests were really well prepared for some hardcore autumn fishing, and autum weather! Warm and waterproof clothes, and all other things you need to go out safe in rough conditions. Plan ready, so let's rock & roll! Well.... September started ..... like summer ended. With an average of 26 degrees , full sun, and no winds at all....they could have better brought some swimming clothes :-) These circumstances made the fishing really difficult most days, but you have to take it as it comes, simple as that. Of course everybody hopes for the perfect conditions, but on the other hand......weather like this was enjoyable also, and to be honest ....it's only fishing, ain't it ? So, Jouke and friends just made the best out of the fishing, enjoyed the weather and had lot's of fun. And that's the only real angler-spirit!
But it's Dalsland, pike paradise ain't it ? Yes. And as always for the guys that never give up, at some point the magic always happens. 116 PB for Henk ! :-)
So, the fishing was not so easy early autumn, but it was not too bad also...just fishing how it is, and just lot's of fun for most anglers! And then, it's also fun for us! Tim and me had a great time together with Bas & Chris! (LUND Boats) . So much fun, fishing and more. Thx guys!
Sportfishing is accepted more and more as a serious sport, and a "professional thing". Young people are better educated, thanks to the good work from various fishing- and outdoor academies. But it's still a long way to go, so as a professional company, I feel like we have to support that. So we took in a group of students again, from Wellant academy this time, for a few weeks practice. To learn all about the work that comes with it. And for those who dream about going out 24/7 fishing....Sorry. Most of the time it simply means regular and often boring work :-) Maintenance, planning, officework, troubleshooting etc. To be short, almost evertyhing but fishing ;)
But of course the main purpose is to provide the best quality fishing to our guests , so we gave them plenty of time to go out on the lakes themselves also. With many decent pikes up -even 3 above 110 cm- it were some fishing trips to remember, and I hope you all enjoyed it. Thanks and keep up the good work!
After this period our schedule was fully booked for the upcoming weeks. Meanwhile the weather changed completely, autumn finally really arrived.....unfortunately starting with 24/7 rain and strong, cold Northern winds. The worst fishing circumstances you can have here, and so Bodo and Brendan (winnars of PT in Holland) had to work really hard to catch some fish ...... but that's nature, and every pike angler knows. It's all in the game. But also.. these guys know how to play the game. It was an honour to meet you, thx !
From then, it was up and down with the weather, and also with the fishing. Tommie and me nevertheless enjoyed a few nice trips with our guests. Really shit weather, but some days it was just great fishing, and worth to go out!
In the last week of our boat fishing season, we had Ed & Johan here again. Some kind of tradition, and a week with FUN ONLY! We started however with a "small" party, which we organised together with Jesper (Marin Fritid) for Övre Rommenike trolling club, a bunch of nice Norwegian guys who visit every year for their annual trolling competition on Vänern. We organised a small lottery, just for fun, AND for charity. This year we raised about 25000 Kr. and soon we're going to make Åmål's Djurpark happy with it!
Many thanks to our Norwegian fishing-fellows and everybody else involved, for your kindness, and for a great evening! Hope to meet again next year :-)
Back to fishing with Ed & Johan.... always fun. However ....this year Murphy's law ruled. We had so much bad luck, with broken cars and all troubles that come with that. In short, it was only 3 efficient fishing days left this week :-(
But.....among there were also 2 fantastic days! With many over the magic line, and a top of 126 cm over 13 kg for Ed and he really deserved that one!! That's still a dream for many pike anglers, so let's take it with a smile and soon we take revenge :-) THANKS GUYS!
Between September and December we had many more guests of course, for a week, or just for a short trip. For some it was really good fishing, and for some a bit harder. The blog would become too long if I mentioned and show all of it, but if you are interested just follow our facebook reports to keep updated.
Anyway, many thanks to all of you for visiting us, and I hope you enjoyed. Welcome back any time, and if we can improve things just let us know.
Besides the fishing itself, we do the best we can to improve quality fishing turism in Sweden in a broad way. How to make it better, and even more fun, and developing it in a sustainable way of course. So I was proud to be invited by FIMS, to explain more about that, and chat with some collegeaues who have the same things and goals in mind. Thanks for the invite Stefan and Marco, and all others! Worth the long drive, will be continued!
For me, it is time for a fishing-break now. Caught enough, seen enough. Lagom :-) Time for other work, and other things we like to do. Some hunting, photography, and family-time, soon it's christmas. December is our time to relax, and after that...... we're soon up to this stuff again! :-) Looking forward!
As stated in the title, time flies...... And before we know it's spring again! :-)
Thanks to all for a great season, with lot's of good fishing and most important, with great fun! We really enjoyed, and we hope you did the same. If not, let us know and we try to make it better.
More exciting news soon.... but first.....
Thanks, and enjoy your weekend!!
April and May flew away...... The springfishing here is very appreciated by angler's all over europe, and if you wonder why they visit Sportfishing Dalsland, just take a look at our former blog about the spectacular springfishing ,and I think you will understand......
Top 10 - 2016
We caught such an amazing number of fish over 110 cm - 10 kg+ this season, together with our guests, that it makes no sense to publish a top-10 list, as we did in earlier years. Top fish measures 128 cm now, and so many other fish over 115 cm / 10 kg+ where caught this season. So....it wouldn't be fair to choose :-) Instead, i will publish an overview of the most beautiful pikes all over this year, and maybe fix a nice price to give away, on fair voting or something like that. But, have some patience please.... I save that job for when the winter kicks in.
About the fishing in June and Juli
Time flies, and summer came to Dalsland! With many sunny days, and nice temperatures. Which is often typical summer weather in Dalsland.
Halfway June, the watertemperature was not so high yet, and we still caught many beautiful pikes on spinfishing. Tim and me put a few days time in discovering new spots. It's always nice to experiment, gather new information, and share it with our guests later on! We found some interesting area's where the water went quickly from shallow to very deep, and with significant differences in water temperature. Casting with mid-size shads, and slowly retrieve them up and down these sharp drop-offs, did the job. Nothing but fun!
Towards midsummer, the water temperatures started to rise . Most bigger fish move to open water and deeper area's then, and often you have to do some more searching, and adjust your techniques to catch them. But if you understand where and how to do it, you get rewarded, for sure. Actually, I think early summer is the best time for the fat pigs from the many inner lakes around here! Both trolling and pelagic fishing can be a good choice.
As every season, my buddies Sean and Frans visit for their anual summer-trolling trip then. They are experts in this type of fishing, as the results show every year. It might look easy, but believe me, it's not. It takes knowledge, time and most often a lot of patience. But if you manage that, then you have a good chance to meet monsters like these !
For next year we have planned a few guiding trips here at Sportfishing Dalsland again. If you're interested to join Sean, contact Sean or me as soon as possible, there are limited places left.
Tommie and me did a lot of guiding trips this season. Early Juli i had Peter and Herman in my boat, for a 4 days trolling trip. Some days were really windy and rainy, but luckely we had some days with nice weather also. And the fishing ... that was pretty cool I think!
After that, we were happy to welcome Koen & Jente. As every year we are sponsoring the dutch PredatorTour, one of Europe's biggest tournaments. And they were the winners of a free week staying at Sportfishing Dalsland! Alhough they are mainly angling for Zander in Holland and Belgium, and then it's not so easy to switch to pikefishing, especially not for a first time in Dalsland, with it's many big lakes. But they are very skilled anglers and especially experts in the pelagic-game. Which also works perfect for big summer pikes! So they did very well, and it was so nice to see them improving their results every day again. Great job guys, and I hope we meet again!
There's other fish in the sea! :-)
As known, we are mainly focussed on high-quality pike fishing holidays, and everything you need for that to have a good time here in Dalsland. But as they often say.... there's also other fish in the sea!
Sweden's beautiful westcoast is only an hour driving from here, and you can have lot's of fun there with beautiful saltwater-species like mackerel, lipfish, cod, and many other species! Here's some pictures of a fishing trip we did there in Juli!
I can assure you it's great fun! Not only for serious anglers, but also a nice activity for families who want to enjoy the spectaculair nature, combined with a high fun-fishing factor!
Good to know : During the summer, we also offer guided trips to fish on the sea among the westcoast, for one or two days. So if you are interested, just ask us and we promise you a beautiful experience!
And talking about other species ....... did you know it's also great fishing for all kind of whitefish in the lakes around here ? Ricardo and his friends were here for a few days in Juli, mainly for pikefishing, and to relax. But one of the angler's in the group, he was more interested in going after whitefish, and he experienced beautiful days with many kilo's of roach, bream and big tench! So as said before....there's lot's of other fish in the sea :-) Thanks guys!
Johannes and my other loyal German friends also visited in Juli. Happy with their new boat, happy with the wheater, and happy with the great fishing. Which made them forget soon that Germany did not make it on the EK soccer... sorry guys;) ) Always a pleasure to have you here!
And some more "cracks" visiting Sportfishing Dalsland ........ pike-experts Hilco and Stef, doing what they are good at. Well done, and thanks for the big fun we had together guys!!!
More pictures below, from a few more guiding trips Tommie and me had during June and Juli....with Ronald, Jasper, William, and many other nice people, having a good time with us!
Related to the guiding, a little side-step to the "equipment" we use: After a few months driving our new Lund Impact boat now, we are still very happy and satisfied with it. Great quality, great performance, and we may conclude that it has all we need to offer our guests safe and high-quality guiding trips!
If you want to join the experience yourself, check here for more information. Welcome aboard!
Back to the fishing! Another nice picture below, Jouke Timmer and me during a half day guiding out on Vänern. Rewarded with a nice doublestrike, both 100+. The pikes i mean of course ;)
Soon Jouke returns here with some friends, try their luck on early autumn fishing. Welcome guys, have fun & skitfiske!!
Every now and then I try to go out fishing myself, when the work allows me. Often joined by Tommie and Tim. We're mainly trying new spots, and experiment with new techniques then. Sometimes we fail, but sometimes we have really crazy days also! And most important, it's always 100% fun together. Enjoy the slideshow below!
In August, we had a lot of guests enjoying summer holidays in Dalsland, and I took some time off with my wife and kids also. We had nice company during our holidays, by our friends Pascal, Derk, Bas from Holland, together with their wife's and kids. And not to forget my dear dad, together here with friends Pieter and Maarten.
Although i love fishing, sometimes i also need to take a break from it, and enjoy other important things in life. So, August was the time to relax for us and stay away from fishing most of the time. As far as I concern, August is not the best month for fishing anyway. But of courseI like to keep my friends happy, so there is always a little bit of fishing :-) So, we went out for 2 or 3 days in August. As expected, it was not the best fishing days, but still we managed to take a few nice ones shortly out of their element. So, mission completed. And the rest of the holidays ..... we spent on other outdoor-fun stuff, and just having a good time together :-)
Next episode : Autumn !
At the moment we still enjoy beautiful after-summer weather, but soon autumn is here. We start the autumn season by visiting the suncity predator show in Karlstad this weekend on 10-11 September . A small, but very professional and always innovating predator angling exposition. Sure worth to visit if you are around!
At the same time, the first group of anglers for early autumn fishing will arrive here, followed by many more in September and Oktober. If the watertemperatures drop a little bit more then I expect great fishing soon again...... Melanie and me already had a little taste of it last weekend :-)
So far, a quick overview of the summer fishing, and other things that were going on at Sportfishing Dalsland in the past months.
I'm sure i forgot to mention a few people, excuse me for that. But anyhow, many thanks to all you dear guests for visiting us, and I hope you had a good time and enjoyed here!
I Wish you all great fishing, and lot's of fun during the autumn season. Välkommen till Sportfishing Dalsland.
Thanks for reading & skitfiske!!
As you can read in our former blog (April 2016) , we started our boatfishing season at the end of March. And right from the start we had really good fishing, we caught incredible amounts of big pre-spawners. But that ...... was only the beginning of a springfishing season we will remember for a long time!
Tim, Tommie and me have put a lot of time and effort in discovering new spots and techniques, and that payed off......Because from the start of April, until the end of May the fishing has been really fantastic for us, and -more important- it was the same for most of our guests!
Let's skip the talking .....Here are some pictures and -for those who are interested in that- some basic stats. Starting with the 3 biggest pikes caught so far - in April and May :
Big, strong and beautiful top-predators. But, it's only June at the time of writing, and I am sure bigger fish will come up soon! :-)
Tommie and me had many guidings , early April it was often with guests from Sweden and Norway. And every time ..... it was big time! Many big, fat pigs came shortly on board of our new Lund Impact boat and we just enjoyed the happy times, with happy guests!
The real busy time started half April, and more and more guests visited us. Most of our houses and boats were fully booked, and we are very proud we have more and more guests coming from all over Europe, to enjoy the fishing, but also the beautiful environment here. Thanks for your faith in Sportfishing Dalsland guys (& girls)!
Tim and me sometimes took a short trip after school or work also. It's always fun together, and never boring. Good strikes, good sizes, and most important- good laughs!
And .... Melanie also joins us sometimes! Girl-power :-)
Quality (fishing) holidays, and the best services, is what we aim for. That also means, we are never finished, because there is always something to improve. So, for 2016, we expanded a little bit with some nice stuga's and houses, on beautiful places. And, we also extended our fleet with some bigger and faster boats, like a Linder 445 Catch, and a Lund Fury, both equiped with 30 HP engines, sonar-gps and front-or back trollers. Perfect fishing machines which give you more freedom and possibilities to fish on the real big lakes, and we noticed many guests appreciated and had great fun with them! Thumbs up for Lund boats, and Marin&Fritid for their great service on delivery and maintenance, thanks Jesper & team!
Back to fishing! A few more pictures of happy faces enjoying the spring-mayhem at Sportfishing Dalsland below ... :-)
Movie : Jeroen Bouwer
Most of our time we spent on making sure that all our guests have a happy time here. But, sometimes you need to recharge so I took a few days in between to go fishing with Tommie, Tim, Melanie and my good friend Pascal. And let's say, we had some fun ...... :-)
Thanks for the good times Pascal!!
We ended this week up by organising a small competition between our guests, followed by a small afterparty :-) With compliments to Jesper and my friends and colleagues at Marin Fritid to assist us here, you are the best. And nice to have you also here for a day Frank & Frank!!
New guests coming, and the fishing went on, and on, and on ....... :-)
We enjoyed sunny weather most of the spring, but at the end of May the temperatures rised above 25 degrees, and the water heats up quickly then. The fishing became a little bit harder, compared to the weeks before. But still........ nothing to complain about I think :-)
So far a few of the impressive pikes and trouts that were caught during a fantastic spring fishing season here at Sportfishing Dalsland. As you can see, it's soooo much fish over 1 meter, and many of them easily reached 110 and more, at weights over 10 KG! Crazy. It is impossible to show them all, it's simply to much. And i'm sure i forgot to show some more impressive fish. If so, forgive me for that and let me know :-) Most important : I hope you all had a nice time here. enjoyed the fishing, and enjoyed your holidays.
MANY THANKS to all of you for visiting us, and we hope to see you back again next time!
At the time of writing we are already in the second week of June, and we noticed the spinfishing for big pikes is becoming a bit harder now, since the past 1,5 weeks. Due to the long days with many sunny hours, and the quick rising water temperatures. It's nature's behaviour, the pikes are migrating and adapting to the circumstances.
Does it mean it's impossible to get the big fish in the summer?
Well .... SURE NOT. Actually, now it's the perfect time starting, to go after the real big ones, on the big inner lakes, trolling and pelagic fishing can be real magic. The first guys who come for that are Sean & Frans - again :-). And i am already sure some big surprises will show up next week. They visit us multiple times a year, below are a few 10 KG+ monsters that Sean and Jesper caught in May here, on spinfishing. Thanks for taking care of a few nice guidings to our guests here also Sean! Welcome again guys!
End up this blog with a well-deserved compliment to my collegaue and friend Tommie Magnusson. Great performance as a fishing guide, and also a great help with all other common business here at Sportfishing Dalsland. Thanks buddy !!!
I think we may say that we offer world-class pikefishing here, and we are very proud of that. Together with our great team of people, and our business-partners of course. But....it's only the best if our guests confirm, and enjoy it! So, we continue to improve our quality wherever we can, and we hope you like it! And if there is anything we can do to make your holidays better, please let us know.
Back to work now! For the coming guests, enjoy your holidays here. Catch , Relax, or both. Wish you all a great summer and ...........
Välkommen till Sportfishing Dalsland!!!
After a beautiful winter with great icefishing, about 10 days ago the last ice dissapeared at the boat ramps on Vänern. So, finally time to launch the boats !!!
Our first trip was a short one, spend some time on preparing the gear and to learn to know the new Lund boat. And of course do some fishing :-)
We enjoyed the beautiful Dalsland spring weather, and soon the first meter + pikes and a few smaller ones were a fact ! Tommie was out there also, fishing for multiple days with some friends, and they caught many big ones with a top of 11,5 kg !
This weekend we had a group of Swedish friends arriving, staying in one of our cabins, and enjoy a nice fishing weekend together out on Vänern. And also a guiding trip planned for friday, with Gary & Klas, two very nice guys, also from Sweden.
So, Tommie and me did a few hours fishing the day before to adjust the equipment, try a few new spots, and locate some fish. Because it's a huge area, and they are still very spread out these days. But soon we found them, and again we caught a few over the magic line, and well-feed ! Many different lures and colors perform well these days, but a slow fished Westin Shad Teez 27 cm worked the best for us, and brought us the most bigger fish.
The circumstances went better and better, and actually the weather, winds and temperatures made us feel that a few crazy days could come up ........and now, three days later, we can say that the feeling was right !
Our guests and we experienced a few crazy days in row. Fat pre-spawners were caught in every boat, and for every angler. Many 10 kg + meter pikes, double strikes, and PR's for some. Total mayhem...... But I think pictures say more then words. Enjoy !!! (Click pictures to enlarge)
In the past fishing days, we caught far over 100 pikes in 3 boats . Spinfishing only. Most decent madames, 90 cm and up, and pretty fat.
And 31 fish were over the magic meter line ! Total madness, and...... one more day to go ! :-)
So, really hot fishing days now. If the circumstances don't change too much, I hope it lasts for a bit longer. But, it can also change quickly, soon it's spawning time. Pike Fishing is never the same, and that makes it so much fun. So, we will see what happens in the coming weeks :-)
One more fishing day to come, and then back to business. Soon more new Lund and Linder boats arrive, very happy with the great service from Lund Boats and Marin Fritid. I hope our guests will have a lot of fun with them. I will post some more details when they are here.
Much to prepare now, busy times are coming up, and we want the best for all our guests !
Thanks for reading, and for the coming guests and friends ....enjoy the fishing, and enjoy Dalsland. I hope you have LOT'S of fun !!
Welcome to Sportfishing Dalsland !
Icefishing is really fun, and a beautiful experience, especially because it's often combined with nice weather. And it just feels good to be outside, in the beautiful nature, to enjoy fishing and have a good time with friends and guests !
Some think icefishing is a sit-and-wait game..... well trust me, most of the time it's not. It can be very intensive sport actually ! Now I can tell a lot about techniques and how-to's, but the short vid below gives a nice impression on what it's all about :
A few pictures from the fishing in Januari below :
At the end of Januari, we had an icefishing competition here in Dalsland, for a group of Dutch people, organised by Sportvisserij Oost Nederland, Edsleskogs Wärdshus and Sportfishing Dalsland.
The weather conditions were quickly changing, so we had a lot of rain, high winds, but luckely also a bright sunny day as we see them often during the winter in Dalsland.
Because of the weather in the days before, the safety reasons and the rules, we were a bit limited in the choice of lakes and fishing spots. The fishing therefore was not so easy, also because the fish get's really suspicious with about 25 people moving around on the ice .....but the fun factor was the most important in this competition.
And nevertheless, a few beautiful pikes, perches and many trouts came up ! And we had great fun in the evenings, as you can see on the pictures below. So overall it was a very succesful event, everybody enjoyed, and I'm already looking forward to the next episode ! :-)
The fishing in Februari only went better and better. Both in numbers, and in sizes. Together with a group of friends we experienced days where we had about 20 fish up, and most of them were healthy, strong fish close to 1m, and a few above the mark. Fabulous fishing days, and lot's of fun !
Some more reports (written in Dutch) about how our guests and friends experienced the icefishing, can be found here on Roofvisweb (By Frans vd Putte) and here : De Roofvis (By Sean Wit)
The days in februari got longer quickly, and so Tim, Tommie and me took a few more trips by ourselves, enjoying the long daylight, magic winter scenery's, and again more beautiful pikes....... :-)
Last weekend, we were surprised by 30 cm of fresh snow again......But the forecast for the next week is that the temperatures slowly but finally go up ! In that situation the ice quality can get worse soon. And safety first, because no fish is worth to risk your life. So we decided to go for one more day, and then finish this beautiful ice fishing season. The last run on Sunday ............
......delivered some beautiful big fish for me, and at the same day for Tommie... both on different lakes :-)
So, I can't think of a better way to finish !!
It feels like we had a long period of icefishing, but actually, it was only 2 months ago since we started it. But like i said, icefishing can be pretty intensive, so it feels much longer :-)
But now it's really time to quit, soon we start to prepare boats and houses, because spring arrives soon now in beautiful Dalsland !
We caught so many beautiful fish, and most important, we had a lot of fun together. Many thanks to everybody who was a part of that !!!
Hope to see you soon back on open waters now ........... skitfiske !
About the fishing in October and November
In October finally the temperatures dropped a little bit, and a few cold nights made the water temperature go down quickly. The perch fishing was really good then for a few weeks in row, and we caught many perches over 45 cm, and frequently they were even 50 cm+ , and sometimes over 2 kg ! They are such beautiful and aggressive predators, and it was a lot of fun for our guests and also for me to go after them :-)
For the pike fishing, early October, the numbers we caught were pretty ok. Some guests reported great days with 15-20 pikes, but they were most "smaller" fish up to 95 cm, and not so fat yet.
At the end of October it seemed they finally started feeding for the winter, many baitfish moved up to a bit more shallow area's, and the bigger predators followed. And under the right circumstances they were really active. So we had a great time, practiced different fishing techniques, and both spinfishing and trolling worked well. And of course, always good fun with our returning friends Johan & Ed !
So overall, we had nice fishing, and lot's of fun ! Sure we do this again next season . Thanks for a very nice time guys, hope you enjoyed !
Jörgen also wrote an interesting article about Sean and Sportfishing Dalsland, in the December issue of Fiskefeber !
Due to the relative warm autumn, we had many last-minute bookings in October and November. Guests from Holland, France, Scotland and even from Romania . It's nice to see so many people from different countries coming to Dalsland. The huge amount of different lakes here in Dalsland offer so many variety, and the fishing possibilities are just endless. Of course there were some though days also, but for most of our guests, it was just great autumn fishing !
So, the boat fishing season was long and we had guests up to far in November, but all good things come to an end. After the last guests left, we started to do some necessary maintenance, and put most boats inside.
Except for one.... because the weather was still so nice:-) So Tommie, Tim and me took a few more trips together. Both spinfishing and pelagic sharpshooting worked well, and all fishing trips ended with some decent pikes. Quality time !
2015 - THROUGH THE SEASONS
So, the pikefishing in 2015 was in some periods a bit different from other years. Why ? Probably caused by the mild winter, or the sudden extreme weather- and temperature changes sometimes. Anyway, we have our thoughts and theories, but only the fish know for sure. Probably that is the reason why we're addicted to pikefishing :-)
Some guests told me that the early spring fishing was really hard for them on some days, compared to earlier years. One day you could find a lot of fish packed on the shallows, and the next day, or sometimes even the next hours, they seem to be totally dissapeared .....or impossible to trigger. Well...Some days, that is just the way it is, and you can only accept it. Especially north winds are really bad for pike fishing here, but never a reason to give up :-) Have faith in what you do, and you always get rewarded !
But most often, it was a matter of changing techniques and fishing area at the right time. Spinfishing is most efficient in springtime, but that can be done in many different ways of course. Especially in such "hard" periods, it's very important to understand the water systems here, the influence of the weather on it, and how the fish responds to that in certain times of the year. Our fiskeland website can be a good start, you can find much detailed information about many lakes there. Also your electronic equipment is a very important tool of course. It's worth to study it well, because a sonar is so much more then only a "fishfinder".
And with that knowledge in mind, make your plan. The anglers who did it in this way, they often found the key, and they probably experienced the best spring fishing they ever had here !
The pikefishing in summer was most of the time good as usual, as long as the temperatures don't go up to high. But most lakes here reach depths easily over 30 meters, and are connected to each other by the channels, so it takes a long time before the water column is heated up to critical levels.
Summer fishing for pikes is really underestimated. A lot of people visit in spring and autumn, but it's good to mention how beautiful, healthy and strong the pikes in Dalsland still are in the summer period. If you look at the pictures on our website, often they are even more fat in summer then in spring or autumn ! Healthy, deep waters, and plenty of food explains. There is an incredible amount of baitfish on most of the lakes. Slow trolling or casting big rubber baits in the pelagic zones is a great method to catch them in summer. And don't forget the perch fishing ! From late summer to far into autumn you can really catch the big ones over 2 kg.
As written, the autumn started slow and it was very different results from one day to another. Different from other years, just like spring. But in the late autumn the fishing was really hot again, as you can read in this blog. Pelagic sharpshooting for single big fish can be very efficient and great fun in this time of year ! It takes some practice, but it's a thrilling game .....:-)
Have to wait a little while, coming up......but here's some to get in the mood :-)
There is more to explore
Dalsland is often called "Sweden in miniature", because of the great variety in nature and environment we have. Beautiful woods, wildlife, and .....an incredible amount of water ! About 1000 big and small lakes, often connected by the 250 km long Dalsland channel. And of course the beautiful skärgård of one of europe's biggest lakes, Vänern.
So, it's not so hard to imagine that Dalsland offers endless fishing possibilities, all year round !
Many anglers visit Dalsland for the great pike fishing. But it's good to know that there is so much more to explore... Big zander and perch of course, but also asp, burbot, various trout species and even big salmons are always nearby to catch !
To wrap up....... 2015 was a great fishing year with many big predators up. Below a small selection of pictures from a few beautiful fishes, caught by our guests and friends, during the seasons in 2015 @ Sportfishing Dalsland. You can find much more pictures and movies on our website of course.
So far the last fishing report for 2015, i hope you enjoyed !
Now, we slowly start preparing for ice fishing season. No winter temperatures yet, but it can strike any time now. Sorry it took a while since the last report .....been very busy with many things, and took some holidays in between :-)
August brought warm and sunny weather . Most of the time we were fully booked. Many guests came with their families now, just to enjoy the beautiful summer, and not particular for fishing only. Although most of them spend some days on the water also, to combine relaxing with some fishing. With often nice results!
Derk vd Molen wrote a nice article about spending summer in Dalsland, you can read it here if you are interested. Written in Dutch.
Among our guests we welcomed Henk & Jeffrey, who got one free week of fishing for 2 persons here, a prize they won at the Predatortour in the Netherlands. They asked us if it was possible to change that concept a little bit, because they wanted to spend their holidays with their family here, instead of fishing only. And of course we fixed that.
Probably one of the best ways to enjoy the best of both worlds :-) Thanks guys, I hope you enjoyed Sportfishing Dalsland!
And to all the other guests and friends of course, many thanks also for a great summer time here !
We had some anglers coming for the real hardcore summer fishing also . The best anglers ....Sean and Frans. They had a nice time again, nice fishing, and even it was August, they caught the biggest fish up to now in 2015 !
Thx again guys, for great fun, as usual ! :-)
Me and Sean meet again soon, planning a late October surprise. We talk frequently about a lot of things, to make the fishing here even more fun. Sean is one of the best pike anglers I know, with a lot of knowledge and skills. Also about the fishing here in Dalsland. We do a unique fishing project together next spring, guided trips included. If you want to learn all the secrets about pike fishing in Dalsland, this is your chance ! Click on the picture below for more information.
In the end of August, i went to the Sun City Predator Show in Karlstad. One of the best expo's for serious anglers, if you ask me. I worked there together with Marin&Fritid to promote some new business. We met a lot of friends, and many other professionals involved in professional fishing. Great fun and a very enthusiast public !
So far the holidays and the summer fishing, up to the fishing in September now! Most often it is great pikefishing in September, close to autumn. But .....not always. Pike fishing is so unpredictable sometimes.
The water was overall a few degrees warmer then it is normally around this time of the year. And the weather changed a lot, we had it all. From nice sunny days, to days with 24/7 rain and storm. And on top of that, many days with North winds, and the experience has learned, that is really the worst you can have for pike fishing here. So overall, the pikefishing in September was really hard for most of the guests. But of course, there is always a few better days in between, and they make it worth to go out at any circumstances !
A few September pics below :
Both Tommie and me served some guests on a few guiding trips in September. And also for us it was not easy on some days.....especially the days with full sun and north winds, it was so hard to trigger the fish for a snack. But, never loose the faith because we know they are down there.... And then in most cases, even slow days have happy ends ! :-)
And even when the fishing is really slow, one fish can make your day......like this old warrior.
And .... other then the pike fishing, the perch fishing was great in September. Me and Tim had a few great days fishing for these beautiful and aggressive predators.
So far some information about the fishing in August and September, hope you enjoyed reading it ! I expect some more pics and reports coming from guests who were here during the last week in September, but I did not receive them yet. So more about that in the next blog.
The first October guests have arrived last week, and still here. And they reported great fishing almost every day !!! I think October will be a great month. We have more guests coming in the next weeks, but still a few houses and boats are available, so if you decide for a last minute fishing trip to Sportfishing Dalsland, let us know. You are very welcome !
Houses and stuga's
We are continiously improving our services and facilities. Now we have some new beautiful stuga's and houses, directly at various lakes. Available from next spring, but bookable from today !
Boat for sale
In the next months we plan to change a few boats for other models, and among a bit bigger ones. Also, our Marcraft with 70 HP (2014) is for sale. If you are looking for a young, fast and best quality hi-tec fishing-machine, maybe this is the one for you .......!
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for our next blog.
After a really busy season, finally time for some reports about the fishing here in June and Juli . To be short, the fishing in June was great for most anglers, and for some Juli was a bit harder due to the raising water temperatures, and changing weather conditions again. But overall, also Juli delivered many big ones, even up to 120 cm, and good numbers for most.
For me Me, Tim and Tommie June started great. We had a few days of good flyfishing and jerkbait fishing . Here's a short movie :
For Marnix and friends it was their first fishing trip to Dalsland. Where normally the sun always shines :-) . But not in this week, they had really bad luck with the weather. Raining 24/7 and stormy winds, trees falling down ... so, hardly any chance to fish in the first days, it was just not safe out there. Luckely in the last days the weather was much better, and we had nice fishing together. Hope they have better luck next time. But, despite the rough weather early in the week, we had so much fun together and that's the most important about fishing !
Thereafter the summer came back for a long time, warm and sunny, and we had a few real nice guys from Belgium here. Their first time fishing in Sweden, so in the first days it took them some searching and some time to explore the waters. But they found them, and caught them. Many big pikes, and also some nice other species like perch and big asp !
Half June we welcomed Hilco and friends, a group from Holland with a lot of knowledge and experience about pike fishing. It was really hard to catch the fish on the inner lakes in that week, and unfortunately it was too much wind to go out on Vänern. Safety first. So we adviced them to concentrate on some real small lakes instead, because often they hide big surprises ...... the pictures speak for themselves I think :) Nice to read Hilco's article about the fishing in Dalsland also, written in Dutch but google is your friend.
Peter brought his "old" friend here for fishing in Juli. At the respectable age of 83, they went out all days in any kind of weather, but most in sunny hot summer weather. And they just did what they came for, catch many fish and enjoy the beautiful nature ! Great guys, respect.
We had a few weeks of beautiful summer weather in row, but when Ricardo and friends arrived, the weather changed dramatically. Wind, rain and much colder. And the fish responded to that, on some days they hardly feed, or only feed for short periods. So it was not so easy for them to fool the big ladies. But nevertheless, they caught over 60 pikes together, and many kilo's of white fish, and had a good time together anyway !
Myself, i went two weeks fishing with Peter and Herman, and later on with Jan. Because of the hot weather we decided not to go for pike fishing, but to try our luck for zander instead. And that was a good choice !
And when fishing for zander, pike and perch make mistakes also of course. But welcome any time :-)
Also had a nice fishing trip with Richard, Adam and Tim lately. Richard caught his first zander ever, and a very nice one to start with...... He's hooked now .... :)
In the past two weeks we have had a few more groups fishing here, but I did not receive any pictures from them yet. But, a few reported some really good fishing last week ! So hopefully more about that in the next blog. Next week we welcome 2 old friends here . Experienced anglers, going after big summer pikes . I'm sure they succeed again.
In the mean while, we take it a bit slower for a few weeks ... time for holidays, and relax a bit. Started with a road trip to mid-sweden last weekend. Nothing to do with fishing of course, but just enjoying wild-life Sweden. Great experience, and nice to see. Enjoy the video below .
Wish you a happy summer , och skitfiske !
